This course aims at providing students with an opportunity to learn and practice the technique of close-reading of philosophical works. We will read the text of an ancient philosopher (announced at the beginning of the semester) sentence by sentence and word by word. The focus of the seminar will be philosophical, i.e. we will pay special attention to reconstructing arguments and positions, but occasionally we will also consider philological problems. We will use a translation, so knowledge of Greek is not required.
