Ever since the inception of philosophy, philosophers have been concerned with the nature of philosophy itself. Closely related to this is another metaphilosophical question: What is philosophy good for? One answer to these questions, which ancient philosophers first proposed, is that philosophy is a way of life. In the seminar, we will study this conception of philosophy as articulated by various authors across different epochs in the history of philosophy.
