This course will be both an introduction to the methods of philosophy and an introduction to core topics in the philosophy of action. As to philosophical method, we will use Jay F. Rosenberg’s book to learn about the nature of philosophy, philosophical arguments (and how to criticize them), philosophical thought experiments, and more.
As to the philosophy of action, we will engage with some classic authors and texts to get clear on the nature of action, intention, and agency, as well as to investigate what is involved in free will and in moral responsibility.
